Although you cannot grow certain root crops on our aeroponic towers, leeks thrive well on them.

Growing leeks on aeroponic towers requires patience as it can take up to five months until they fully-mature and become ready for harvest.

Leeks belong to the alien vegetable family together with onions, scallions, and garlic. They offer a lot of health benefits and versatile uses in cooking. They can be added to soups, pastas, dips, salads, etc. They are rich in flavonoid, especially kaempferol, a natural antioxidant which is also present in kale, broccoli, cabbage, etc. This type of flavonoid is believed to have antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, cardio-protective and anti-diabetic properties.

Ancient Greeks and Romans were also fond of leeks. As a matter of fact, Emperor Nero, the fifth Roman emperor, earned the nickname “Porrophagus,” meaning “leek eater.” Nero believed that consuming large amounts of leeks would improve his singing voice.

One of the fascinating features of leeks is their root system. The roots are dense and matted.

Our innovative vertical farming method made it possible for us to cultivate 44 leeks in just one aeroponic tower.
